Hamilton made some very interesting watches in the fifties, from electric watches to movements like the Micro rotor fitted in this Thin-O-Matic.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The movement in this watch had production dates between 1957 and 1962. We have selected a mid point year of 1959 as a likely date of production.
CONDITION
The watch earns the name Thin-O-Matic because of the micro rotor. Normally automatic winding mechanisms are bolted to the back of a conventional mechanical watch, making them thicker and therefore requiring a thicker case. Because the microrotor is inbuilt to the calibre 619 movement the thickness is less, so the watch is thinner. It’s probably only about 1mm thinner overall, but thinner is thinner! This watch is in a 10k rolled gold case, and the movement can only be accessed by removing the armoured crystal. The rolled gold is much thicker than gold plate, so even with the deep scratch on the non crown side you still can not see the base metal. The bottom right lug is bent, but secure and not cracked. The leather strap is new.
This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
