No, it is not atomically powered! This Technos Atomium was made to celebrate the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair, and the logo from that fair is on the dial and caseback.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Not only do we have the connection to the 1958 World’s Fair, but we also have an advert from 1958 featuring the Technos Atomium.
CONDITION
The 40 micron gold plated case is unusual, as most gold plated watches are 10 or 20 microns thick. The fact that they have also fitted an automatic movement, an ETA calibre 2362 with centre seconds and seventeen jewels shows that Technos really wanted this watch to appeal to an up and coming market, as most ladies watches were simple two handed manual wind models. The stylised atom symbol on the dial is quite subtle but does catch the eye nicely, and the six points of the symbol are at the even numbers on the dial – in reality in most lights you see the applied hour markers on the odd numbers easier. The box has a similar logo inside but does not say Technos anywhere we can find, so may not be original to the watch. The 9k gold plated Excalibur stretch bracelet is clean and in good condition but if you prefer a leather strap we can swap that for you.
This watch will be supplied with a presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
