This Swiss Elgin Pensacola has a wonderfully clean starburst, or sun ray dial, and is great to find with its original inner and outer boxes.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Elgin watches made in the USA all have serial numbers on the movement. However this watch is known as a Swiss Elgin, which uses a US case and assembly but a Swiss movement (The Elgin 643 is based on the AS1361). Given this information, and taking into account of a former president of the NAWCC, we believe this watch was made circa 1958.
CONDITION
The outstanding item on this watch is the dial. Striking and very clean, it might be a long time until you see another one this good. We have shown a close up of the dial pattern, shot using our 43x digital microscope, to show how good it is. The lume is all there, but will not be effective after all these years. The gold filled case is great, not showing wear or knocks. The hockey stick lugs are similar to the Omega Constellation pie pan models that collectors love. Fantastic to still have the original inner and outer boxes.
