HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Avia watches are not easy to research. The movement fitted to this one was around for 20+ years, so is not very useful. However the logo for Avia changed in 1957, and this is the earlier logo. We have found an Italian advert from 1956 that shows an illustration of a similar watch, which fits the movement production and logo dates, so without further evidence we can say this watch was made circa 1956.
CONDITION
The movement is a manual wind 15 jewel calibre from AS, but the actual number is not visible. It is running perfectly well enough. The three piece case is chromed in the centre section and the bezel, and the case back is stainless steel. The case is larger than average for the time, which is a bonus today. The dial is the highlight though, being not only in good condition but also very clean in design. The blued leaf design hands are very nice. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. The acrylic glass has also been replaced, so this watch is ready to be enjoyed.
