A very early Zenith Pilot men’s vintage watch, in wonderfully original condition.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

We have a copy of the highly respected Zenith book from Manfred Rossler.  In this tome they say that the Pilot range was launched in 1955, and the movement used in this watch was discontinued in 1956,  Circa 1955 has to be very close.

CONDITION

The calibre 126-5-6 movement has shock protection, and this was one of the sales points for the Zenith Pilot range.  This particular 18 jewel movement also still has the dust cover in place, when so many of these were lost in service over the years.  They were designed for the Jet Set, at a similar time to the Universal Geneve Polerouter and the Rolex GMT.  This example is wonderfully original.  There is some slight patina to the dial, but we would rather see that than a repainted dial any day of the week.  The blued syringe hands are infilled with radium, as are the numerals, but this is only really visible in UV light now.  The stainless steel case has a design trick, where in side profile it appears to bend but in fact the case is straight and the lugs curve around the wrist.  Everything is working perfectly and the leather strap is new.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
