This is a clean, Swiss made Helvetia men’s watch which offers great bang for your buck.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This is not the most straightforward watch to accurately date, but the movement database Ranfft says this movement was in production circa 1955. We have found nothing to disagree with that information, and in adverts for different Helvetia watches in 1953 and 1954 we have the logo is very similar.
CONDITION
Please note – after the photos were taken we noticed the glass had a few scratches and there was a red thread on the dial. We have replaced the crystal and removed the thread before the video was taken.
In a market where Swiss watch prices are seemingly rising by the month, it can be hard to find good watches at more affordable prices to offer to you. But this Helvetia offers good quality at a reasonable price. The case may be chromed, but inside you have an in house hand wound movement that is running well, called Calibre 830. The dial is very clean, especially from a time where non waterproof watches and lots of smokers were not a great mix. The gilt hands and hour markers shine, and the hands are filled with radium lume. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
