Heuer built their good reputation by building stopwatches first, and were one of the best in this sector.  Model reference 901

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From comparing the styling against adverts and brochures of the time we think this was made circa 1953.  Later watches didn’t have the onion crown, and the logo used was fractionally taller.  We have found reference 901 in both a 1946 and 1957 catalogue, but we don’t have access to catalogues for intervening years.

Stopwatches were widely used, and sometimes we forget just how important they were.  It isn’t just sport, but science, manufacturing, the military, TV and radio production – they were everywhere.  One of the best manufacturers was Heuer, and their good name in motorsport came from drivers choosing to use their stopwatches and dash clocks (something Jack Heuer lead was product placement in later years, making sure F1 drivers had a Heuer on their wrist.)  This stopwatch measures in 1/5th second intervals, and can time up to 30 minutes.  The chrome shows some wear to the back and bow, as shown in the photographs, but the watch runs very well, resetting sharply.  While Heuer wristwatches are now unobtainable to many people, fetching thousands, the stopwatches provide a quirky and cool way to have a Heuer in the collection.

This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
