A fully serviced, fully stainless steel men’s J.W. Benson watch with original dial.

To the best of our knowledge there is not an reliable way of dating J.W. Benson watches with 100% accuracy, but we have found a Doxa watch that used the same movement and that can reliably be dated to 1952.  It is likely this watch was made circa 1952 also.

Throughout its history, J. W. Benson Ltd was official watchmaker to the Admiralty & the War Department and also held a number of royal warrants, being watchmakers to Queen Victoria, the Prince of Wales, the Tsar of Russia, Abu Bakar of Johor and several other royal families.  The London factory was bombed during WW2, and never reopened.  Instead they would design the watches to be made in Switzerland, and they did not skimp on specifications.  This watch contains a AS1361N autoomatic winding 17 jewel movement.  This has just been fully serviced and is running sweetly.  That movement is set in a all stainless steel case, with screw on back to help watch resistance – in fact the movement was protected again water, shock and magnetism by this case.  The dial has even patina, and the minute track around the edge is all in tact.  Neither the dial nor the hands were ever lumed, which is also positive as it could have been radium lume used at this time.  The acrylic glass is new, as is the leather strap.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
