A rare Wittnauer watch featuring a power reserve indicator at 12, from the company responsible for importing some the best brands into America.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

Although this does have a serial number, there doesn’t seem to be any reference available to allow us to date it accurately.  Given the size, styling and movement we think this watch was made circa 1950, but if you do have any more information please do contact us.

CONDITION

Wittnauer were the US importers for brands including Jaeger-LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin and the brand they most closely associated with Longines.  But they also had their own watches made, and some have a strong following.    The movement is stamped as a Wittnauer 11A1B, but is actually heavily based on the AS1479.  The power reserve indicator at 12 is the stand out feature, and it is a useful but rarely seen complication.  It is working, but doesn’t seem to pass 3/4 full.  The dial is original and in very good condition, with just a small chip near 7 to report.  The hands are original, and the radium lume has fallen out of the minute hand.  The stainless steel case has a screw on case back and attractive dog leg lugs, and is in good order for the age.  The Hirsch water resistant strap is nearly new, but the woven material looks so good with the Wittnauer watch that we kept it together.  The watch wears larger than the dimensions suggest, mainly thanks to the 18mm lugs.

This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
