This Roamer was water resistant, shock resistant and antimagnetic – no wonder it was caller Popular.

We have not managed to find a period advert for the Popular range, but the movement was in production circa 1950 so we have gone with that date.

MST 405 is actually a rebranded Buser 25/115 manual wind movement, which was unusual for Roamer who made their own movements but this very useful site does list the Buser as one of the ‘foreign’ movement used by Roamer. Roamer may have chosen the movement as it is quite slender, and helps the watch be a couple of millimetres slimmer than the standard Roamer models. It has early shock protection on the balance, and it is running well. The dial is very clean for the age, no doubt protected by the water resistant case. This is not one of Roamer’s patented waterproof cases, but a more conventional design with screw off stainless steel case back. The case is coated with 12 microns of gold, and this has worn through at the lugs. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred – this process is made easier by the drilled lugs. This is a very cheap addition to anyone’s collection, or maybe as a starter to a vintage collection.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
