This Oris Date Pointer has an hand that does exactly that – points at the date on an outer scale.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
It is not possible to date Oris watches to a particular year, but the styling, technology and production dates of the movement would date this watch to being made circa 1950.
The brand that most people most associate with date pointer watches is Oris, and you can still get a date pointer watch from them as part of their Big Crown model range. But this is from a much earlier part of their history. The subdial shows the seconds, and then you have the three hands – hours, minutes and date hand is the one with the red paint on the end. The manual wind movement is the Oris calibre 453, which has seven jewels – Oris watches of this period were not as premium as their modern watches, so a low jeweled movement and a chromed case is used here. The bezel is brass. The dial has gilt letters and railway track minute markers on it, as well as some patina that is most noticeable around 11. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon. By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
