This Nivada Autocal is a lovely looking thing, and in fully working condition. Ideal for the bumper movement collector, as they won’t find many of these.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
we have no serial number or hallmark on the case, but the movement was around in the late forties and early fifties. Bumper auto movements were phased out during the fifties for the more efficient full rotor automatic designs.
CONDITION
Bumper automatics were not around for long, and the AS1315 in this Nivada Autocal (automatic with calendar) must have been one of the most complex made. You have sub seconds dial, pointer date, and windows for both day of the week and month. One other brand that also used this same movement was Girard-Perregaux, but you will pay a premium if you can find one of their versions. You can advance the date and month via the pushers near the crown, and you set the day by advancing the time (do that part first!). All is working well. The case is a nice design, and does show some wear to the gold plate. This looks worse in our lightbox photos than in real life. The dial is very clean, and it would be hard to find another dial in better condition. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
