Girard-Perregaux have been making watches since 1791, and this is one of their earlier Gyromatic models.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Looking at the production date of the movement, along with the styling, we think this watch was made circa 1950. It is unlikely to be earlier as Girard-Perregaux registered the Gyromatic trademark in June 1950.
CONDITION
The Gyromatic sub brand ran for a long time, and to find an early one in a stainless steel case is a bit of a rarity. This one uses a full rotor automatic movement, which is branded a Girard-Perregaux 767 but is heavily based on an ETA 1256. Like a lot of older automatics it is better to help it along by giving the watch a quick wind to get it going, and using the automatic movement to keep it topped up, as they are not as efficient as a modern automatic. The case is particularly nice here, especially the bezel which is at an inverse angle. That is probably best shown in the video. The drilled lugs are a nice touch too, making strap changes easier. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. The dial does have some marks and patina, but that is better in many eyes than a redial – it can only be original once.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
