An unusually early calendar watch from Elco, which for a cheaper watch has a lot of charm.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Judging by the styling and the movement production dates we think this watch was made circa 1950. While the earliest date window watches were from the 1920’s, it was still quite a rare complication – the first automatic watch with calendar for example was only launched in 1945.
CONDITION
This Elco watch may be Swiss, but it is at the lower end of the quality scale. The case is only chromed, and the movement is the manual wind Baumgartner 670 CLD. That is a pin pallet movement, unjewelled, but it is running well and has the calendar at 12. The date doesn’t align perfectly with the window, but given the age we are prepared to forgive this. The dial is quite nice, despite a few marks, and the hands appear original. The red second hand is a nice look, The chrome case does have some pitting, but also has interesting lugs. The acrylic glass is new, as is the strap, and for the money this is an interesting addition to any collection.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
