HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Cyma have been making watches since 1868, but this watch pre dates the NavyStar watches which became the brands waterproof range. The NavyStar name was first registered in 1955, From this, and the production dates of the movement, we can date this watch to being made circa 1950.
CONDITION
While this is a called a Watersport model, no claim is made on the watch that it is (or was) waterproof. Post WW2 the demand for sportier, waterproof watches did grow and this watch does have a seal on the case back, but doesn’t state 30m waterproof or anything similar. The case is stainless steel and has fixed lugs – another throwback from military watches. There is some ‘NATO rash’ on the case back where a NATO style strap has been used in the past, and rubbed the case back. Inside the case is Cyma’s own movement, possibly the 413Ka, which has fifteen jewels and is all working well. But the stand out feature on this watch is the dial and hands. While the dial is all in good condition, it is the way the radium lume on the dial and hands has faded to a creamy, consistent colour. The leather strap is new old stock, with period buckle too (not signed Cyma), and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. This Watersport is an attractive Swiss watch and delivers excellent value for money.
