A very clean, large for the time (oversized) men’s Avia watch with fixed and interesting lugs and a manual wind movement.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Avia watches changed their logo to a more blocky design in 1958, so this watch must predate that. The design and movement looks to be late forties, early fifties so we are saying this watch was made circa 1950. We can not be more accurate than this.
CONDITION
At a time when a lot of men’s watches were 30-33mm diameter there was a term called oversized for a bigger watch. Nowadays a 35 mm case would be considered rather small, but that is how fashions change. Because we are used to larger watches there is great call for the vintage oversized watches now, as the oversized watches are often the smallest size some people would consider to wear! The condition is fabulous, with just the lightest of patina on the dial. The three part case is base metal in the centre, typical for the time, and stainless steel back and bezel. The 15 jewel hand winding movement is running very well. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
