This men’s Smiths watch, that was Made in England, was one of the earliest models. Model reference RG 0307
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We have found an advert from 1949 that features, among others, the RG 0307 model. Described as a three piece stainless steel case with lume on arabic numbers and hands, it looks like the exact same watch as ours (allowing for print quality and discolouring of the advert). It could be that this watch is slightly earlier or later, but it must be close to being made in 1949 as Smiths models changed frequently.
CONDITION
When we bought this the leather strap attached looked to be the original, but it was in an unsafe condition so had to go. However we can believe that the watch was not worn much, looking at the condition of how it has survived. The dial is very clean (the spot near ten in the photos was on the top of the crystal and has been removed, as shown in the video). The lumed needle hands have nicely blued edges too. The case was made by Dennison, and the material is called Denisteel, a trademark they registered before the war. The movement is a 15 jewel calibre 100, with nice Côtes de Genève decoration you don’t see in later Smiths watches. Everything is running nicely. The strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. It will be hard to find a better example than this.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
