This civilian version of Vertex’s WW2 issued watches clearly has a military look to it.  Model reference 4296.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

The case is made of Denisteel, an early brand name for stainless steel which was registered in 1934.  But the movement fitted to this watch was in production circa 1945, which also fits the styling clues.

CONDITION

Vertex were one of the twelve companies commissioned to make watches for the British Army, later called Dirty Dozen.  Considering that some of the others include Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC, Longines and Omega this is all you need to know about the quality of Vertex watches of the period.  This watch is cosmetically closer to RAF issued watches than Army, and it does not have any lume so no issues about radium.   The case, made by Dennison, is in quite good condition and only shows marks from being worn and not really damage.  The size is small for men today but normal then.  The dial is original and has a few spots and scratches, but the watch is nearly 80 years old.  The movement is a manual wind Revue 59, the same movement they used in those dirty dozen watches, which is running very well.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred or a NATO style style nylon strap.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.
