The Moeris is one of the larger and more common ATP watches issued during the beginning of WW2.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Watches marked ATP (Army Trade Pattern) preceded the 1943 introduction of the ‘Dirty Dozen’ WWW watches. We do not have an accurate date, but circa 1941 will not be too far wrong.
CONDITION
ATP watches are widely faked, so before we buy anything stamped or engraved ATP we cross reference them against the known information. Moeris were a supplier of ATP watches, along with at least 19 other firms. The issue numbers do include ones that are of four digits, starting with 5. The serial numbers of Moeris ATP watches span from 25xxxxx to 28xxxxx, which our watch falls into too towards the beginning. And our watch also has fixed bars, whereas the civilian watches usually didn’t. So all is good.
The chromed cases on these watches always show wear and scratches. There were of course in a war, and after eighty plus years the plating is going to have worn. This example is no exception to that, but this one does have a very good dial and hands. The hands and dial both feature radium lume, so those being in good condition is a real bonus as no watchmaker would want to re lume them due the radium. Behind the screw down, stainless steel case back is a Moeris 10.5 C movement, which is ticking along nicely and is set within a soft iron ring to protect against magnetism. The nylon one piece strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
