Lemania made excellent chronographs, and the Air Ministry bought these to help their servicemen during WW2.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Often military watches have the year of issue stamped on the case back, but this one has GG instead of the year. This is unusual but not unheard of, but no one seems to know why (including the leading author of military watch and clock books, whom we asked). If you do know then please do contact us.
CONDITION
Who knows what stories this could tell? But that is the thrill of military pieces, and while many wristwatches are out of reach for lots of people the stop watches are still available for reasonable amounts – a three hander dirty dozen Lemania will cost 20x this stopwatch, and a chronograph maybe 40x.
The gunmetal case shows some wear and tear, but the hinges are the correct stiffness on both the case back and movement dust cover. The bow is likewise just right. The movement is working perfectly and the dial with red 60 is clean. There are some marks on the case where the watch has been opened. The case back has the correct markings for the Air Ministry, and the engraving is absolutely typical for the time – not perfect, as they were never perfect, but correct for the period.
This watch will be supplied with a basic presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
