Made by Revue Thommen and retailed by Bravingtons of London, this GS/TP pocket watch would have seen use during WW2.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the GS/TP markings on the case back we can date this watch to being engraved during the Second World War but we can not be more accurate than that.

CONDITION

GS/TP stands for General Service Trade Pattern, and particularly during the early years of the war the Ministry of War bought many different brands of watches to fulfill the need of the country.  There was minimum standards, such as sub seconds, minimum of 15 jewels on the movement, railway track minute markers (although you will find some examples outside of these parameters).  The biggest problem with GS/TP watches is that they were faked from quite early on, but happily this model here appears in the British Military Timepieces by Konrad Knirim.  The dial has faded to a very nice and even cream colour.  All the lume plots are there, and the lume in the hands is complete and original too.  The dial has a mark at 23 minutes, which looks like a tool slip mark – this is unusual as the front and rear cases of this pocket watch screw on where clip on cases are more common.  There is an S underneath the crows foot on the case back to warn the watchmaker too about these cases, so they don’t use the incorrect tool.  The movement is Revue Thommen’s calibre 30, with is winding, setting and running well.

This watch will be supplied with a basic presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
