A well used RAF issued pocket watch made by Jaeger-LeCoultre.  Military stock reference 6E/50

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the issue number on the case back combined with other research we can date this watch to being made and issued circa 1940.

CONDITION

Military watches are different to most collectible vintage watches, in that the buyers tend to prefer the watch to look used,  Otherwise, what’s the point!  This Jaeger-LeCoultre has definitely had an interesting life judging by the wear on the case, but at the same time the watch runs well.  These pocket watches were often preferred by RAF navigators as they could lay the watch flat on the maps they were using, and the bigger dial was easier to read in low level light.  The seconds subdial on these JLC’s is very large, something that could have been very useful in some operational circumstances.  The dial does has some staining near twelve, but unlike the Army GSTP watches the RAF ones do not have any lume.  Sometimes these watches were sold to civilians and at some later point the military markings were stamped on to increase the value.  The watches destined for retail always had engine turned finishing to the inside of the case back, whereas the ones going to support the war effort didn’t – just like this watch.

This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
