The Hamilton Sutton has a very curved case to fit snuggly around the wrist.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From cross referencing the model with the Hamilton book we have we can see the Sutton was only available in the 1937 and 1938 catalogue. The guarantee papers are not dated (nor is there anywhere to fill in a sale date).
CONDITION
American watches like this Hamilton managed to mass produce gold filled cases during this period better than anyone else in the world. The case on the Sutton is a very interesting design , especially when seen from the side. At that angle you can really see the arch that the lugs, that run from end to end, give the watch to allow it to fit round the wrist rather than on top. Hamilton’s rivals Gruen did that by building a curved movement for their Curvex range, but Hamilton didn’t need to do that. Those curved beams also provide protection for the crown. Inside this watch is a grade 980 calibre, which is running well and is nicely decorated. The gold filled case does have some wear, most noticeably in the photos on the bottom left lug, but in life size and on the wrist that is very difficult to see. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, papers and our Certificate of Authenticity.
