This Ideal Girard-Perregaux is a slim, 42mm cased pocket watch that is going to be a nice addition to anyone’s collection. Model reference 6664C.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This is a bit of a nightmare to estimate when it was made, due to the generic design of pocket watches. Girard-Perregaux were founded in 1791, but we have found that they registered the name Ideal as a sub brand in 1888. But the movement appears to be later – this style of bridge is more 1920s or 1930s. In short, do not buy this watch is of want a definite 1930 watch as we are being very broad here!
CONDITION
When you look at the movement, accessed via the hinged case, you can see this was a quality item. The movement has 18 jewels, and is marked adjusted in 6 positions – that is a very high standard indeed. Even the plate underneath the balance is decorated. It runs, sets and winds very positively. The case is steel, and stamped for Ideal on the inside. The hinge is in good condition and the case back has a couple of small dents but has never been engraved. The dial is very clean, and the blued hands are dead straight.
