Not long after we got our first Monopusher, we got another – also by Eberhard & Co.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Eberhard launched their first chronograph for the wrist in 1919, and you can see that in their online museum. This continued to be their flagship model throughout the 1920’s, and in 1935 they launched a two button chronograph to replace the Monopusher. By 1939 their logo had also changed slightly, so even if the monopusher was still in production after 1935 it can not be later than 1939. Given that this watch has the earlier hinged lugs rather than the later fixed lugs we think it is from circa 1925.
CONDITION
The other Monopusher we have at time of press is chrome plated and has a snail graduation on the dial. This watch is 20 micron gold plated and has a cleaner look to the dial, but otherwise they are quite similar. The movement is working well, including the chronograph as demonstrated in the video. The movement is a column wheel chronograph, calibre 16000, as the cheaper cam operated chronos hadn’t been invented by this stage. The large case shows significant wear on the rear, just like the chrome cased plated watch, but they are approaching 100 years old. The case is signed on the inside of the rear hinged caseback, and the front bezel is also hinged. The enamel dial has a few small cracks and a chip to the edge, which is hidden by the case when closed. The Breguet blued hands look to be the originals. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. it is fitted with a butterfly deployant clasp with is modern.
