HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the dated warranty card we can accurately date this watch to being sold in 2020.

CONDITION

The Speedmaster is a legend among all watches.  Launched in 1957, it famously was worn on the moon (Bulova’s Accutron also passed all of NASA’s tests, and was used in the Lunar Module).  But this model celebrates Omega’s longer history as the official timekeepers of the Olympic games, which it has done more often than all other brands combined.   The association started in 1932, and has been agreed to continue to at least 2032.

This special edition is for Tokyo 2020, the games that nearly got cancelled due to Covid19 and were delayed a year.  The main hands are what Omega call their Broad Arrow design, filled with lume.  The tail of the chrono second hand has intricate Olympic rings, painted in the correct five colours.  The white dial is a throwback to the earlier days, but under the dial everything is very modern.  You have the Co-Axial escapement movement, unique to Omega and designed by George Daniels for very precise timekeeping and low maintenance.  This is called Calibre 3133, and has automatic winding, a column wheel chronograph and calendar too.  Unlike earlier Speedmaster autos, this has the full size 42mm case.  The The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.

To buy a ‘regular’ moonwatch Speedmaster would cost £5,370 at time of writing, which doesn’t have automatic winding, sapphire crystal nor calendar.  The least expensive new Speedmaster with 42mm case, automatic winding, calendar and sapphire crystal is the MkII at £4,820, so this Olympic special edition is tremendous value for money.

This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, papers and our Certificate of Authenticity.
