HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the stamped international warranty card we can accurately date this watch to being sold on 18th September 2019.
CONDITION
For many people the Omega Speedmaster should be the same as the watches worn on the moon as possible. This one is. The case is 42mm. the movement is manual wind, the strap is a NATO, and the crystal is Hesalite. The dial is black with the subdials in the 3-6-9 formation, and those early astronauts would recognise the watch.
What is different is the box it comes in is huge – 36x30x15cm for the outer box. Inside that is a fold out box, which holds a suitcase style case. In that is a caseback emblem, the papers, a nice Omega loupe and a compartment for straps and the branded strap changing tool. Those straps include the unworn leather strap that comes as standard, complete with the deployant clasp, and two black NATO straps. These are all shown in the video. The receipt for the watch includes an extra £125 for the striped NATO Omega strap the watch is pictured on – the only one that appears to have been worn. The case back protective sticker is still in place. The current retail price for this watch is £3,910 without the extra strap, so this is a considerable saving on new.
