CONDITION
The watch is barely worn, and it is difficult to fault the condition. It is still available from Newmark directly for £299.
Until the RAF switched to quartz movements, they sourced their watch supply for their crew on the Vulcan, Harrier, Tornado and other planes from just four companies. The companies entrusted were CWC, Precista, Hamilton and Newmark. Fewer than 500 Newmark watches were made, so finding an original is difficult and very expensive. The RAF then switched to Seiko watches.
It seems quite appropriate that the reissue Newmark then is fitted with a Seiko VK64 quartz movement. Not only has this therefore got some RAF pedigree, but the watch does not look or act like a quartz movement. There is no second hand ticking away, and because this is a mecaquartz movement the chronograph is started, stopped and reset using cams and levers, just like the mechanical chronograph. The chronograph counter ‘sweeps’ at 5 ticks per second, or 18,000 bph, so even with the chrono running no one will know this is a quartz watch. You also have a 24 hour dial on the right, ideal for those long sorties.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, papers, spare leather backed Codura strap and our Certificate of Authenticity.
