This Giugiaro designed limited edition is an update of the 1980’s Speed Master model. Model reference A825-00A0 or SBJG001.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 2018. Only 3,000 of each model were made, and this is number 281 /3000.
CONDITION
Giorgetto Giugiaro was named Car designer of the Century in 1999 , and this high praise is well earned. Cutting his teeth at Bertone, the Italian designed Ferrari 250’s, the original VW Golf, the first BMW M Car (M1) and the similarly wedged shaped original Lotus Esprit, as well as Alfa, Maserati, Lancia, Saab and even the DeLorean. In the eighties he also designed watches for Seiko, the most famous being the ‘Ripley’ used by the character in the film Alien.
Some of these Giugiaro models have had limited editions made more recently, and this watch is one of those as reviewed here at the time. While the electronics are updated, the case design is quite loyal to the original. The slanted display is actually very ergonomic, as it makes reading the time when typing or driving easier (Ayrton Senna wore the PVD black version of this watch before TAG Heuer started sponsoring him). The bezel rotates to switch between the functions, which include a digital tachymeter that no one will ever use! The instructions are available here, and all the features on this watch are fully working. This watch has been worn, and you can see the bracelet has some swirlies and the Hardlex crystal has a small scratch. Under the word Mode there is also a mark. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.
