The Endurance was the first Farer automatic watch, and this one is in excellent condition.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the warranty card, which has the matching serial number that is also on the case back, we can accurately date this watch to being sold in May 2017. We have found this review on Hodinkee from February that year, and the serial number on their watch is 40 watches later than this example, so this much have been one of the earliest made.
CONDITION
You can buy a new Farer Endurance II for a a couple of hundred quid more than this watch, so why pick a used watch? Well one reason is the money saved, and a few hundred pounds is a significant saving. The second reason is that this watch looks to only have been worn a few times – the original strap is barely marked, as shown in the video. A third reason is that you may prefer the styling of the original to the second generation – the date at 6, and the way the dial is brushed to give a two tone effect on this watch, whereas the newer watch is only brushed in one way. The only other difference is this watch has an ETA 2824-2 and the new watch has a Sellita SW200. Technically there is little to pick between either movement, but ETA stopped supplying non Swatch group companies which forced the change. For this money, new or used, there are few watches that are as interesting or as well finished as Farer watches.
