A Japan only model, this Sportura picks up the time signal via GPS. This is model 8×22-0AC0, also known in the catalogues as SFF077J1
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in May 2016.
CONDITION
This watch was built to showcase the latest technology that Seiko could offer. Caliber 8X22 was thinner than it’s predecessors, yet still solar powered so you will never need a battery. The watch receives a GPS signal, so it is going to be the most accurate watch this side of an atomic clock – with a press of a button you reset the GPS signal to whichever time zone you are in, and if you use this complication you can expect accuracy of +/- one second ever 100,000 years. Just re read that last sentence again – it is correct. As if this was not enough, the perpetual calendar automatically adjusts until 28th, February in the year 2100. You have a sapphire crystal, and the bezel surrounding that is ceramic. The watch is anti magnetic to a level of 4,800 A/m, which is the requirement for ISO 974, and water resistant to 100m. The European models were called Astron, and the Sportura was only available in Japan, but they both use the same 8X22 movement.
This particular Sportura has the original calf leather strap in good condition, on the stainless signed clasp. The case has some light marks on the flanks and lugs, but no dings. The crown looks original but appears to have lost an insert, which doesn’t affect functionality at all. The sapphire crystal is excellent, as is the ceramic bezel. The functions all work, including the GPS time setting of course. This watch comes with box and papers, but the papers are not completed and are not specific to this model. The Seiko lume is fantastic, as usual.
UPDATE – Since the photos and video were taken we have reset the hands on the watch via the method described in the manual (no tools needed, just followed the sequence). Now the indicator is in the correct position.
