HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the supplied paperwork, which matches the serial number on the lug, we can accurately date this watch to being sold in September 2016.
CONDITION
This model Seamaster Co-Axial stands out as a great one to buy. It was the first model with the ceramic bezel, and the first with a non wavy dial for a long time. It also has the latest co-axial movement, the calibre 2500D, which was replaced on the next models (shown with the date at 6 and not 3 like this one. You have a helium escape valve, marked He, at 10. If you don’t know what a helium escape valve does, you will never need it (it is used in deep diving – this watch was rated at 300M). The lume is excellent, and the minute hand is deliberately a slightly more blue lume to help read the watch in poor light conditions. There are small marks on the clasp, which is unavoidable on these, and we have several spare links for the bracelet. The ceramic bezel should never fade like the older bezels do, and has a positive 120 click action. The domed sapphire crystal has such good anti reflective coatings that you wonder if the glass is there sometimes! The case back is more work of art, featuring a deeply embossed hippocampus. Everything on this tool watch shows why it would have cost in excess of £4,000 when new.
