One of the highest specification watches available, this retro yet futuristic Seiko SDGA002 watch was available for over £1,250 when new.  Model reference S770-0AA0.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in November 2010.  This mode was first launched in 2010 at the Basel fair, and the steel model had a UK price of £1,250.  We don’t have the UK price for this gold plated version, but in the 2010 Japanese catalogue the steel watch (SDGA001) was ¥94,500 and this gold plated watch was ¥105,000.

CONDITION

Having launched the first LCD watch in 1973, Seiko updated the technology seriously in 2010 with the SDGA002.  Seiko retained the three buttons on the front of the watch, like the 1973 watch, but upgraded every thing else.  So, just starting with the basics, you get a solid case and bracelet and the glass is made of sapphire crystal.  Then it gets very tech heavy – the movement is charged by solar power, and set daily via radio control to allow an accuracy of +/- 1 second per thousand years as it checks in automatically with one of four atomic clocks at 2 am.    Not enough?  How about a perpetual calendar that will run to the year 2060 without adjustment?  Or a world time function for 32 cities?  Alarm – yes, and a light.  And the movement can last up to nine months in power saving mode from fully charged without being exposed to sunlight.  But we have not even got to the real party trick of this watch yet.

The screen is not LCD, but EPD – much like a Kindle e-reader.  That means it only consumes energy when the screen display changes, and it’s very clear from all angles unlike LCD.  And you have five different ways to show the time – even one showing the time as playing cards.  The screen isn’t very responsive, so you couldn’t have a chronograph for example, and a little patience is required when scrolling through the options, but if you want a clear digital watch then this is about as good as it ever got.  You can read an independent article on this model here and the full instructions are available from Seiko here.  This watch is in excellent condition and has had the capacitor changed recently.  The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
