The British Horological Institute (BHI) launched this tourbillon model to improve understanding of Breguet’s invention.  Model reference BHI150

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

The BHI were founded in 1858, and this watch was launched to celebrate the 150th anniversary of this event in 2008.

CONDITION

The role of the BHI is to promote clock and watch makers and preserve the skills – which is one reason Birth Year Watches are proud to be a business partner of the Institute.  A tourbillon is still seen as one of the hardest things in watchmaking to do, so to show off the skills needed the BHI commissioned a short run of these watches to be made.  The role of a tourbillon is to cancel out gravitational pull on the escapement, but revolving the escapement constantly.  Frankly, it is not needed and the real reason now to have a tourbillon is to see bits of the watch spin round through the cut out on the dial!   The tourbillon also acts as a seconds hand, as it makes one complete revolution per minute.  The dial is clean, and we understand this watch has been worn sparingly – we supplied this watch tot he last owner over 10 years ago.  The leather strap is nearly new, and we explain in the video why we haven’t changed it.  The strap is held on with screw in pins rather than cheaper spring bars.  The watch is signed on the dial, case and clasp.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.
