HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the supplied paperwork, which matches the serial number on the case back, we can accurately date this watch to being sold in December 2005. This was the first year this model was available.
CONDITION
Being an exclusive chain of high end jewellers in Switzerland, Carl F. Bucherer has the client base that know what they want and in 2004 they launched a range of watches that not only nod to their history (they have been making watches since 1919), but they also expanded it by having unique movement complications. We can not think of another watch like this Patravi that has a chronograph, power reserve and big date this side of very, very expensive Glashutte or A. Lange & Sohne pieces. The large date is the first thing you notice, being easy to read and has the ability to be quick set. The main hands are skeletonised to allow you to read the date even when they may otherwise cover the numbers. The constant seconds is on the sub dial at 3, and the chronograph minutes on the opposite subdial. The power reserve is quirky – the hand stays static and the dial behind turns to show you how much energy is left – this is demonstrated in the video. The case is unpolished and therefore has small marks, most noticeably on the left hand side. Mechanically everything is working well, and the sapphire crystal has no scratches or chips but the anti reflective coating is buffed off a little. The 47 jewel movement is very clean and has an ETA base, making finding parts in future easier if they are ever needed. The leather strap is the original, and while it does have some wear it is preferable to an OEM replacement.
Maybe the natural competitor for the Patravi is a Franck Muller or a Ulysee Nardin Michelangelo? But they are in a different price league.
