This Concord Sportivo chronograph has a solid, quality feel and nice details. It even has a nice box to match the paperwork.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the supplied paperwork, which matches the serial number on the case back, we can accurately date this watch to being sold in 2004.
CONDITION
Concord watches were founded in Biel, Switzerland, in 1908 to provide high quality watches for the US market. They still do this, and have a much lower profile in the rest of the World. But they do have an interesting history – President Truman presented Stalin and Churchill with Concord watches at the Potsdam conference in 1945, and in 1979 the Delirium I was the World’s thinnest watch at 1.98mm – this record wasn’t good enough, and by the end of 1980 Delirium IV was just 0.98 mm thick – this includes the case!
The Sportivo models were a much more reasonable 10mm thick, which is far more practical to wear daily. Inside the solid stainless steel case is an ETA chronograph movement with 23 jewels, branded for Concord. The bracelet is very solid and has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The overall attention to detail is very good – the butterfly clasp on the bracelet is engine turned, as is the inside of the case back – no corners were cut wen producing this watch. The watch has arrived with its warranty card, booklet and box – the box interior is tatty, and this is something that a lot of watch boxes suffer from. The ‘Leatherette’ finish to the inside of the box deteriorates and crumbles off – the same can apply to Omega, Cartier and Breitling boxes too. At least we know it is not a modern replacement. The guilloche dial is faultless, as is the sapphire crystal. At time of press the 29 Concord Chronograph watches on Chrono24 range from £602 to over £5,000, so we know this is priced to sell.
