HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the supplied paperwork, which also states the serial number on the case back, we can accurately date this watch to being sold in September 2003.
CONDITION
This Diastar Divers watch was ahead of its time. Years before Rolex and Omega started to use ceramic for the bezels of their divers watches, Rado were using this highly scratch resistant material for the entire case and bracelet. This should be no surprise – Rado lead the world in the use of scratch resistant materials, marketing the first Diastar in 1962 as scratch proof with sapphire crystal and hard metal case. They have continued to lead the development n this technology as you can read on their history page here. This watch as you would expect is not showing many scratches on the mirror polished finish, and the sapphire crystal has just the tiniest marks. The deep blue matte dial is clean, and the quartz movement is running perfectly and will have a new battery fitted – these use lithium long life batteries so are good for approximately eight years. The outer box is good, but the inner box is very poor with a side missing – we have seen this before with a similar age Rado, so this must be a bit of a design flaw to the box. The bracelet has had links removed that we do not have, but we have confirmed that they are available to buy and be fitted by Rado if required. Do measure your wrist before committing to buy this watch.
This watch will be supplied with the original outer presentation box, a very scruffy inner presentation box, papers and our Certificate of Authenticity.
