This International Watch Company (IWC) Da Vinci SLchronograph shares a movement with its Jaeger-LeCoultre cousin. Model number IW3728-005.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the original paperwork, where the serial number matches the serial number on the case back, we can accurately date this watch to being sold in January 2002.
CONDITION
The Da Vinci range have been the pioneering range for IWC since the launch back in 1969. That watch featured the first Swiss quartz watch movement, and the Da Vinci went on to house IWC’s first Perpetual Calendar (accurate including the year display to 2499!), ceramic cases and even a perpetual calendar with tourbillon – few makers would ever attempt that.
This watch doesn’t have the groundbreaking engineering of those watches, Instead it is a well made watch that follows the KISS principles (Keep It Simple, Stupid!). The dial is very legible, and having the seconds hand at 6 keeps it symmetrical apart from the date window at 4. The dial has no marks, but there is the loss of some tritium lume from the 5 and 7 hour markers if you look closely. This is all housed behind a sapphire glass, which is scratch and chip free. The bezel has a couple of scratches up near the chronograph pusher at 3. The case back still has the original factory sticker on it, which has faded to yellow. The eleven link wide beads of rice bracelet is all solid links, and long enough for most wrists. It is also very comfortable to wear. The bracelet is finished with a butterfly clasp. The movement, calibre 1187, is also used by JLC (badged 630) in some of their models, and is working perfectly. The screw down crown has the fish symbol that IWC use on their water resistant watches.
