HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the supplied paperwork we can accurately date this watch to being sold in 1999. The Autoquartz models were launched in 1997 and finished in 2004, so despite the paperwork not having the model number we are happy it is correct. We also have the Autoquartz instruction book with this, so it is very likely everything has stayed together all these years.
CONDITION
Tissot were not the first to have a watch that charges a capacitor – Seiko Kinetic watches work with the same principle. But the advantage with the Tissot movement, ETA calibre 205.111, is that you can hand wind the movement to get it started. The Seiko requires a lot of arm swinging to put enough charge in the capacitor if it goes flat. Once the power does reduce the second hand starts jumping in 5 second intervals, so you can see when the movement needs a little boost, but if the watch is being worn the weight on the movement turns and winds the watch, just like an automatic watch does. In order to give many years service we are going to renew the capacitor before sending the watch out. The dial is good, and the sword hands are clean and straight. The crystal is sapphire, and unmarked. The case is all stainless steel, and has an engraving on the side saying ‘To Dad with Love’. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, papers and our Certificate of Authenticity. The box still has the blue protective strip on the logo.
