The Sheffield jewellers Mappin & Webb have a longer history of making watches than Rolex. This Campaign chronograph S2 shows why they have endured, even if you have never seen one before as they are quite rare.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the quality control number on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch case to being made no earlier than October 1998.
CONDITION
This watch is not short of specification. The case is all stainless steel. The 27 jewel ETA 251.282 quartz movement is also used by Tag Heuer, Longines and others in their watches, and that is behind a screw down case back. And the glass is sapphire crystal, and has some of the best anti reflective coating we have ever seen. On top of this, when new the watch was rated to 100m water resistant. But you would expect this from a good name such as Mappin & Webb – you can read about their history (from 1775) here. The leather strap is a lightly used Armani item, complete with Armani buckle, but the colour suits the watch so much that we haven’t swapped it. If you would prefer a new brown or black leather item then just ask and we can do that. The chronograph powers back to zero perfectly, as shown in the video.
