A steel sports watch from Vacheron Constantin, the Overseas was a direct competitor to the Royal Oak and Nautilus. Model reference 72040.

We sent photos of the watch, including the movement, and the serial numbers to Vacheron Constantin. They have confirmed that the watch was made in 1996, which was the launch year of the Overseas model range.

Two of the big three had sports watches with integrated bracelets – Audemars Piguet had the Royal Oak, while Patek Philippe had the Nautilus, so it made sense for Vacheron Constantin to join the party. They did in 1977, with the 222, and in 1996 launched the Overseas. With the set and forget quartz movement this version is the easiest to live with, and the cheapest to buy. All functions are working correctly, including the quick set date and screw down crown, and we will install a new battery before it is sent out. The stainless steel bracelet has been polished to remove light scratches, and has a nice touch of quality to the patented double security clasp – see the video for the details. The satin blue starburst dial is very good, as are the hands. You can still buy a 37mm Overseas from Vacheron Constantin here, but it starts at £17,700.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
