A very original Piaget Altiplano ultra thin men’s watch, in 18k white gold.  Model reference 9920

We have found a watch of the same model that was offered by Antiquorum in 2015 for sale that had sales papers for April 1997, and the Altiplano name first appeared on the dial in 1998.  But we can see from the serial number on the movement that this example was made in 1996.

Four Millimetres.  That is the entire thickness (or should that be thinness?) of this watch.  That is slimmer than the Vacheron Constantin ultrathin we have from c1971, and that was listed as the thinnest watch in the World at the time.  Of course Piaget have strong history in this area of ultra thin watches, and their 9P calibre shocked the world when launched in 1956.  This Altiplano has a direct evolution of that movement, the 18 jewel 9P2.  Adjusted to 5 positions, it is beautifully finished as well as accurate.

The crown has an inset cabochon cut stone, likely to be sapphire, which has no chips.  The dark blue Cousu Main (hand sewn) strap is from Piaget too, and the buckle is the original 18k white gold one too.  The dial has a chain link pattern embossed on it that is only visible in some lights, so we have tried to show that in the photos and video.  The nearest current model is the 38mm Altiplano, and this starts at £15,500

This watch will be supplied with the original outer cardboard box, inner presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
