This Pulsar V657-X063 is the civilian version of the RAF issued watch, and is the desirable 1st Generation.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in September 1993.
CONDITION
The watch is almost identical to the military version, with the only differences being a T in a circle under the date window (to indicate Tritium lume) and the MOD case back markings. The other big difference is that a military issued version will cost two or three times the price of a civilian version like this. The movement is made by Seiko and is working perfectly. These movements don’t snap back to zero, but wind back so are not the best for timing multiple events. But it does have a constant centre seconds hand, which many chronographs don’t have. The top dial measures 1/10th of a second, and the hand pauses after 60 seconds to save the battery (but it is still being measured – when you stop the chronograph the hand moves to where the current 1/10th should be.) The subdial at 6 measures 60 seconds, and the subdial at 9 records 60 minutes. Everything resets to zero as it should, but the stem is slightly bent which you only really notice when setting the time or date. There is also a slight mark on the bezel near the crown, so the chances are that both the bezel and stem were caught at the same time. The glass has been replaced, as has the rear case seal, battery and a new NATO strap has been fitted.
