HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1992. The range ran from 1990 to 1998, but this full size model was discontinued in 1994.
CONDITION
Obama is a watchfan! This site here lists some of the watches he has been pictured with, but his daily for a long period was a TAG Heuer 1500 bi metal on a leather strap, just like we have here. The 1500 series was basically a replacement for the most popular lines for TAG Heuer, the 1000. Like the 1000 the 1500 wasn’t available as a chronograph, but you gained sapphire crystal over glass. The textured dial in this one is excellentin some lights and then you see some shadow or staining in others – it is difficult to describe, and the video is probably the best place to judge this for yourself. The lume on the hands and dial is very clean. The movement is an ETA 955.412, a seven jewel quartz calibre with quick set date which is all working correctly. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred but 21mm lugs do restrict the options here. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.
