HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number between the bottom lugs we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1991.
CONDITION
The Air King model was first introduced in 1945, and at 34mm was large for the time. The most famous reference is 5500, which stayed in the range for an astonishing 37 years, but in 1989 the Air King 14000 was launched. It still had the traditional styling, but the movement was upgraded to the calibre 3000 and the watch was fitted with a sapphire crystal for the first time. The calibre 3000 gives you 27 jewels and a higher beat rate, meaning a smoother sweep second hand. You also gain hacking for precise time setting. This example has the stick indices and silver dial, so you are getting the vintage look with the upgraded sapphire crystal. The dial does have some fade to the centre. The case is all stainless steel, correctly stamped with the model number between the top lugs and inside the case back, and has not been polished. There is a mark on the bezel near two, but the sapphire crystal is perfect. The original bracelet, reference 78350, has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. Everything is running nicely, and the signed screw down crown is smooth to operate.
