This Datejust is a black dialed, stainless steel sports Rolex that is not silly money. Model reference 16234.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number between the bottom lugs we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1991. The punched sales papers, with the same serial number, show it was sold in 1993. The reference number 16234 can be found between the top lugs. The original receipt for the watch that matches the papers is also included in the sale.
CONDITION
The Datejust is a classic, go anywhere and do anything sports watch without anything unnecessary. The Oyster case is unpolished except for the case back – it had a personal inscription including an address engraved on the case back so we have had it professionally filled and polished back to the original thickness, so it is both structurally and cosmetic correct. The dial is very good, and the sapphire glass is new – the original one had some nibbles to the edge and will be sent with the watch. The fluted bezel, a Datejust classic feature, is made from 18k white gold to add a hint of luxury to match the sportiness of the case. Inside the case is Rolex’s 3135 automatic movement, which features a quick set date that some earlier Datejust’s didn’t have. The original jubilee bracelet was stretched beyond economic repair, so the previous owner wore this on a leather strap. We have replaced that with the one in the photos, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. For many people the Datejust is the perfect one watch collection, and with the advantages of sapphire crystal and quickset date the 16234 may be the ideal model.
This watch will be supplied with the original papers, receipt and our Certificate of Authenticity. This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
