HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being in January 1989. This movement was first used in June 1988.
CONDITION
This would have been one of the most popular watches by sales in 1989. The reason it has lasted so well is that Seiko didn’t skimp on the quality, using mass production to drive the price down to an affordable level. So where some watches were plated, this was fully stainless steel. Some watches had clip on case backs, whereas this is a screw down case back to better protect the movement – the 100 in SQ100 is a reference to the 100m / 10 bar water resistance the case had when new. This helps protect the dial too, which is very clean, and the movement that has quick set day and date. The day wheel is in French or English. Despite being one of the cheaper watches on our website, that doesn’t mean we have cut back on the preparation. The original bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, the case cleaned by hand and the glass replaced. We will also fit a new battery before the watch is sent out.
