If you wanted a watch with very high precision, the Longines VHP was one of the most accurate available.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the warranty card we can see this was sold on 21/12/1989. The warranty card doesn’t have the serial number completed, nor the supplying dealer – we only know it was supplied by Dipple and Son of Norwich as the spare link for the bracelet is in a branded bag of theirs.
CONDITION
When the Very High Precision (VHP) range was first added to the Longines conquest range in 1984 it was a huge success. Much of the market was trying to build cheaper watches, and Longines decided to build better watches. The original VHP range ran all the way to 2006, and the VHP range was reintroduced by Longines in 2017 to further success too. This model is steel and gold plated, and in all round good order. The bezel is usually the part of these watches that shows the most wear, but this example is better than most. The case back has a few marks but they are quite minor. The hour hand can be set independently, which is ideal for people crossing time zones frequently, but the smooth crown design doesn’t make it the easiest to turn. The movement is branded a Longines 174.2, but that is really a badge engineered ETA 255.561. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required.
