Which watch model did Seiko chose when relaunching the Grand Seiko models?  This 95GS.  Model reference 9581-7000 or SBGS001.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in October 1989.  The price at the time was ¥113,000, when you could buy a three hand basic Seiko for ¥12,400.

CONDITION

Seiko themselves say the 95GS range were the first quartz Grand Seiko models (the 70’s and 80’s Grand Quartz were never acknowledged as official Grand Seiko models), and they were chosen to relaunch the Grand Seiko brand in 1988 after a bit of a hiatus.  The 95 series of movements were accurate to +/- 10 seconds per year, which is still a high standard today.  This one is in excellent condition, and the blue sticker on the concave case back could be the original.  We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.  The leather strap is new, and has the GS buckle on it.  Lots of these earlier Grand Seiko’s are either on a short bracelet, or the bracelet has been swapped for a leather strap, but this model always came on a leather strap, as shown in the 1990 catalogue picture we have shared.  The only negative is the GS insert in the crown has cracked and a portion is missing.  The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and buckle.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
