This commemorative Elgin watch was commissioned by Olin, the model reference is 2780.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

The dial says 1989.  That’s good enough for us!

CONDITION

The Elgin watch company has a history going back to 1867, and they have made some really nice pocket watches.  However the company closed their Illinois factory in 1965, and more modern Elgin watches are no longer made in the USA.   However it made sense for Olin, another Illinois company, to want to use Elgin watches in whatever promotion this was for.  (We have checked their website and they were founded in 1892, so it wasn’t their centenary.  It could have been to reward particular customers or staff for a good year?)  This watch has a simple one jewel Ronda quartz movement which is working exactly as it should.  The glass is unscratched.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.  We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.  While this is not a watch that will excite seasoned watch collectors, it is absolutely typical of its time and therefore important that we offer watches like this.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.
